The thread is pearl cotton #8 in color #701. I sent the bookmark to my STA for St. Patrick's Day. With 4 leaves it would be a clover.

The snowflake is from "Tatted Snowflake Collection" by Jon Yusoff and is called "radiance". I love doing these--always a challenge. This is tatted in white--DMC Cebelia, #20 thread.

The next motif is in sunshine colors. I guess i needed that to brighten a miserable blizzardy winter day. It's designed by Nancy Tracy--she does such pretty patterns. The thread is Coats & Clark tatting thread in size 70--the color marker is long gone. It's from my stash from long ago.

And the pretty red heart is from "Tat's Amore" by Martha Ess--such a neat book and fun to use. It is the Antique Rose Heart. Again I used thread from my stash--this is Clark's O.N.T in size 30. The color is #126. This is old thread given to me by a friend who got it from her grandmother, so i'm sure it's no long available.

I hope you enjoy seeing my efforts. It's becoming more and more difficult for me but I keep at it. One project is to make enough butterfly bookmarks to supply all of my doctor offices. i'm getting close. Please feel free to comment.

I received a lovely card from my sectret angel--from Sri Lanka (Ceylon was printed on the back side in case I wasn't aware--always helps. She was having a wonderful vacation in a warm place. That would be really great. This has been an awful winter here. There is still a foot-deep ridge of snow in my yard even after a week of weather in the 40's and 50's. Ah well, spring will come. It was fun to hear from her. This is "Pixie". Another thing that pushes me to do something is a new fascinating thread. This motif is done using Sulky blendable 12wt. cotton thread. The color is Autumn. The finished size is just about 3", quite a bit smaller than the size 20 that was used in the printed picture. Great fun to tat!!

I received my Dec. and Jan. gifts from my secret tatted angel on the same day. These are very welcome. Such a lovely variety of things. There was a photo postcard of the Attenborough Church. I love reading the "Ring of Tatters" newsletters. They are always past issues, but that doesn't matter--they are full of wonderful pictures and some patterns. The Dec. envelope contained lots of treasures. 2 shuttles that were new colors, a small booklet of patterns by Rosemarie Peel, and 3 cards with frames for tatted pieces. Thank you very much for all this.

The January card contained another newsletter of "Ring of Tatters" and lots more pictures of motifs and some patterns. It also had a photo postcard of a fascinating national park. There was a very nice hemstitched hanky for me to try an edging, which I have never done and thread to try with it. The threads were Venus Crochet Cotton size 70 in green, yellow, and lavender. And thank you again for your generous package.

I have finished my 25 motif challenge with an extra motif

Now I have another angel from Mark Myers book "Tatted Gathering of Angels". I love the thread and this about finished it off. It's Lady Shuttle-Maker's HDT size 20 called Bell Peppers. Really lovely and I might have to order some more--only when I use up a cabinet that's full of thread. LOL.

And the last posting is from my secret tatted angel. It came in October and I finally took a picture. Too bad it's sideways. But there are 2 Ring of Tatters newsletters, which are very interesting, some rayon thread in pink and white and a lovely Indian shuttle. Thank you very much.

And now on to the new year 2011. I hope everyone has a healthy and happy New Year. And lots of productive tatting.

almost to 25 motifs

I love tatting Mark's angels. This one is LaVonne's angel. I used DMC blanc in size 20.
The halo is gold embroidery thread, about 3 strands.

I was fascinated with all the tatting shown online using the Sulky thread. Of course, I had to order some of it. The thread i've used for these 2 motifs is Sulky size 12 cotton. The color I used is Truly Teal. It's wonderful to use--just slides right along. The first motif is the first round only of "Peony" from "Tatting Patterns & Designs" by Gun Blonqvist & Elwy Persson. It was the perfect place to stop. The second motif in the bangle is "The Third Day of December" fromLene Bjorn's "24 Snowflakes in Tatting". I will offer the finished tattings to my friends that I spend each Tuesday evening with. They are wonderful to me and I love all of them. Their picture is in a previous blog.

The purple snowflake is one of Jon Yusoff's wonderful creations from her book "Tatted Snowflake Collection". This one is "Pirouette" and was tatted with some of my stash from ages ago. It is DMC size 70 in a dark purple variegated thread.

The green and white snowflake is from the same book by Jon Yusoff. It is "Astral" and was tatted with size 30 threads in white (blanc) and Christmasy green #701.

My next posting will finish this one and will be done in a few minutes unless I feel the need of a nap (which I do often).

<img style="float:left; She's 7 1/2 now, and has arthritis, poor baby. She keeps me sane.

Here is what I did with all the leftover butterflies. I used Flora color #55 in size 20, It measures just under 3". Her patterns are wonderful--just enough difficulty to make them interesting.

I now have 14 motifs + 72 very small butterflies

This first photo is from Annie Potter's book of crocheted bookmarks. You can see that it lends itself to transcribing to tatting. The 2nd photo is my interpretation of that bookmark. Is my effort a new design? You can decide. Anyway, it was hit or miss and lots of retro-tatting . The final photo is the final product. The flowers are all take-offs fromMary Maynard's "Tatting Rings of Flowers". The threads were DMC Cebelia size 20--for the bookmark and one of the flowers, I used ecru. The other flowers were tatted in Color
#437 (a camel color), a light grey green color #524. The yellow was size 30 (because it was the right color) in color #745.

if you'd like the pattern please email me

<beagle.sam02@yahoo.com></beagle.sam02@yahoo.com>

<beagle.sam02@yahoo.com></beagle.sam02@yahoo.com>

Photos of blanket wedding present

The first photo shows Gracie, another helper making the blanket. She had to see if we were all doing things correctly.
And, at last, a picture of the whole blanket. The other pics show my tatted hearts (the blue one is just visible on the blanket) which were stitched to the larger squares. And you can just see some of the tiny butterflies scattered all over the blanket.

The small black squares were all made by one of the ladies, and the rest were made by the rest of the people in the picture in the previous post. My tatting was also attached by just one person. The pieces and the edging were all done by another of the ladies. Colored threads were bits and pieces donated by all and were made into squares, either knit or crocheted, by them. Just one person did all of the joining and lots of people finished off the strings of the squares and also sewed on the tiny butterflies.

For some reason my pictures are always the opposite of where I want them. So, I shall start from the bottom and work my way up. Then they'll be in the right order.

The heart with the flowers is a continuation of the previous hearts--to go with the project that my friends (photo is of the group) have been working on. It is 'Daisies and Forsythia' from Martha Ess' book "Tat's Amore". The yellow and white threads are DMC Cebelia --yellow is #745 size 30, the white is also size 30. The green is DMC cordonnet special size 30, but no number is available.

Black heart is from the same book and is called 'freeform heart'. The thread is also size #30.

The small butterflies were also made for this project. They all measure about 1" to 1 1/2". The threads were all ends from my shuttles. I made 72 of these. If they are not all put to use, I will make them into bookmarks to hand out to my friends.

The photo was taken when we were all together and working on the project (I will have a photo of it after the 1st of July and will post it right away).

The butterfly is from Simple Angel Lesson Series, Part 3 - butterfly motif by Sabina Carden-Madden of Paradise treasures. The beads are larger than seed beads and are from my stash. The thread is Lizbeth size 20, color #115.

I am finally posting my tatting for the 2010 25-motif challenge.

The first piece for the year was the butterfly bookmark. The thread was a present from one of my friends--what a great gift and it was one that I didn't already have (amazing). The pattern is the butterfly bookmark by Jane Eborall (such talent) done in Lizbeth size 20, color #119. That brand of thread is a joy to work with. The bookmark was immediately given to the lady that gave me the thread.

Then I tatted the four-ring snowflake by Wendy Durell. The red thread is also from a friend who received it from her grandmother. It is Clark's O.N.T. size 30, color #126--quite old but in great condition. The white is Cebelia DMC.

I used the same threads for the bookmark from "Tat Marks the Spot" by Karey Solomon. Her name for the bookmark is Circle of Friends.

Then I started on a project in conjunction with my friends and the hearts both go for that. They from are from "Tat's Amore" by Martha Ess. I really enjoy tatting from her designs. She, too, has great talent. The white heart is Antique Rose Heart and is done with Cebelia DMC size 30. The pink one is "Scallop Shell Heart" and uses Cebelia DMC size 30 in color #818.

I am in the process of tatting another heart from the same book for the same project. Hopefully, I'll be able to show you the finished product, but not till summer.

<img style="float:left; This one is Christina's Angel and done with my stash of size 70 thread in white and variegated blue color #13.

The small bookmarks are from Mary Maynard's "Tatting Rings of Flowers". I just added tails to her designs to make the bookmarks. The blue one is a variation of flower #43. The thread is Flora color #55. The pink one is flower #46 in flora color #62. The third bookmark is flower #57 and the thread is wondeful Lizbeth #121. The combination of colors is great and i think it is my favorite to work with. The threads are all size 20. I had hoped to finish enough of these to put them in my Christmas cards. oh, well, maybe next year if they stick around that long. I have a way of handing them over whenever someone admires

them.

The other two bookmarks are from Jane Eborall's Funny Face bookmark. Of course, we all decided that it represented a cat and I probably have 10 of them to do matching my friends assorted cats. The first one here is all white with big blue eyes and a pink nose. The other one is grey, cordonnet special color #318, and white. Both are in size 30 thread.

This will complete my 25-motif challenge for 2009. They were all finished before I had to stop tatting in Dec., and couldn't manage to post them.

I have now started tatting again, and am working on the 2010 challenge.

I hope you enjoy my efforts. I really enjoy tatting. Blackman, appearing in Modern Priscilla magazine in 1917. I used Lizbeth thread size 20, color 121, with the white being DMC Cebelia size 20. It was tatted as a gift for a friend and I added the tail to make it into a bookmark.
The other bookmark is a design by Jane Eborall. It, too, was tatted as a gift. I adapted this as a cat and used colors to depict the owners' own cat--green beads for the eyes and a pink one for the nose. The grey is DMC cordonnet special, color # unavailable, and DMC Cebelia blanc, both size 30. When the bookmark was seen , I immediately had "orders" for six more in varying colors to match the various cats.

/Users/shirleyburger/Desktop/wmmgiveawaytm2.jpg

now I have 21 of my 25 -- might make it before Christmas

When I received the Lizbeth Christmas thread (color 116 in size 20) I couldn't wait to use it. The all-white centers and outside edging are DMC blanc #20. The pearl beads are 4mm. The beads were added one-at-a-time except for a few that had to be on the ball thread. This pattern is from my Japanese pattern book. I think it's a little late for me to learn to read Japanese, so don't know the designer.

The maple leaf motif was done by Tammy M. Rodgers from a pattern from the February 1975 issue of Workbasket. It seemed perfect for the use of Heather's Hand Dyed Thread. The color is golden cranberry avocado in size 20.

The Christmas ornament is from Lene Bjorn's "24 Snowflakes in Tatting". The pattern is The Fifth Day of December. I used white (dmc cebelia, size 20) for the rings, then added green metallic embroidery thread to make it sparkle. Next time I will use finer

thread with the metallic--I think it will be prettier.

The heart pattern is from a book given to me by a friend--it is from Annie's Attic-- "Heirloom Treasures in Tatting". The pattern in called Valentine and is designed by Florence Anthony. The only difficult part was in attaching the three center motifs (of course, figuring out where I needed to carry the beads on the shuttle thread posed some problems. The beads are pearl--2+mm. I used size 20 thread instead of the 30 called for which made it a little larger, but it was the color I wanted. The thread is Flora, color 62.

I hope you enjoy my efforts. I used Flora size 20 in color #55.

The bright bookmark is tatted with LadyShuttle-Maker's hand dyed thread size 20 "Bell Peppers". The pattern is in Karey Solomon's book "Tat marks the spot". and is called "Posy". It was fun to make and thread was wonderful to work with.

The large angel is designed by Mark Myers from his book "Tatted Gathering of Angels". It is called "LaVonne's Angel" and is done with size 30 thread as i didn't have any size 40 (I now have plenty in my stash).

The tiny angel is the one shown on the cover of the book "Tiny Tatted Angels" by Patricia Ann Rizzo. It adapted from angel #2 as suggested by the author. I used size 20 Clark's Big Ball--not very good thread, but I wanted to try the size. There is a tiny glass heart bead as a pendant.

3 more for my 25-motif challenge--5, 6, & 7

The bookmark with the tail is from Mary Maynard's "Rings of Flowers". So I bought her a real one. This is from Linda Davies" "Summer Collection of Tatted Flowers". It is the purple allium. A florist told me they come in all shades of purple. This shade seemed to fit the lady. I used Linn Mortons' book "Tatting Patterns" and "Hearts and Flowers #1" is the pattern.

The next bookmark satisfied my determination to do a project with clunies. The pattern is from "Simple Angel Lesson Series Part 5 - Bookmarks/Edging by Sabina Carden-Madden. It was a real challenge and some of the clunies show that I'm an amateur. Oh well, i have something i'm fairly proud of doing. It is the one named "Pirouette" and is done is size 70 thread. The color # is long gone. It measures almost 3" across using that size thread.

The small bookmark is taken from Mary Maynard's "Tatting Rings of Flowers". The thread is DMC size 80, color #66. This is flower #57 and in that size thread measures just 1". I had planned on tatting a great many different flowers from this book and putting them on a dark blue denim jacket, but I've since realized they would have to sewn on and I would not be able to do that since I am unable to hold a needle. It's disappointing but they make neat small bookmarks when I add a tail (my own design.)

The 3rd motif is from Jon's Patterns Page. It is the 'Quantiesque' Snowflake. The colors are my favorites--all size 30 thread, but not the best of threads, unfortunately. The red is J.&P. Coats Best Six Cord color #128. The green is color #701 DMC Cebelia and the white is also DMC Cebelia. The Coats thread really does work up well and is easy to use. I have a bunch of these left over from my early days of tatting when i didn't know better. lol

Feel free to comment. I used size 80 thread DMC color #55 for the edging, and size 70 Coats & Clark color #161 for the inside. Click on the picture for the enlarged picture to show the stitches.

And here you see my attempts to do the cluny leaf. The leaf itself was fairly easy and didn't turn out too bad. But it was impossible for me to join it to the rest of the tatting because my fingers could not hold the threads adequately. I think this is my last attempt because it took over half an hour to do one leaf and my fingers really hurt. So much for that!!!! This time I've used grey and black size 30 thread with a red bead collar. And the angel is Martha Ess's Joyce's angel but enhanced with pink edging around the top and at the skirt bottom. The thread is size 20. I have also changed the gold--using only 2 strands of the metallic floss. It is now less heavy looking, and better, I think.

The ornament is from Lene Bjorn's "24 Snowflakes in Tatting", and is 2nd day of December. I used size 30 thread and it measures 4 1/2". I might try this again using size 80, and some beads. Unfortunately, I get slightly bored doing plain tatting such as this and am always looking for some way to enhance the pattern.

The little turtle was tatted for my friend who collects turtles. It is by Brenda Bonilla. The pattern was for needle tatting which I don't do, but translated to shuttle tatting. Instead of size 20 thread, I used 30, Omega color #1377. This made it small enough for her to have earrings if she wishes.

This is another example of my design in placing beads throughout an ornament when none are in the original design. I used Lene Bjorn's book "24 Snowflakes in Tatting", and this pattern is called "The First day of December". I love the bright colors in variegated threads that are available and this one is HHLizbeth size 20 in color #118. There is a single 1/4" metallic gold bead tatted into the center and 1/8" gold beads on the shuttle thread and placed on picots between rings. It was rather difficult keeping track of where I was on the pattern. The motif measures 4 3/4" in diameter.

I've used the Dover book "Tatting for Today" for a long time. The red, white, and green ornament is done in #30 thread with red crystal seed beads tatted in with the pattern. It measures 3 1/4 " sq.

The green triangle is from the same book. It is tatted with #30 thread also, with tiny silver metal beads. It measures 2 1/2" from point to point.

The beadwork is done by my own design.

The pink motif, or small doily, is from my Japanese tatting book. The thread is DMC pearl cotton #815 maroon, #818 pale pink, and #3326 dark pink in size 8. The beads in the centers of the circles are 1/4" silver tube beads. The original pattern called for 6 seed beads where i have substituted 2 tube
beads. I can hardly wait to use the threads and the bangles, maybe together. And the eyeglass case will be great to carry with me when I work with fine threads. My friends are fascinated with what I am working on. Christmas is a long way off, but my tree will be graced with the wreath ornament that Cas tatted. And the sunstrip will be great on my patio door, or on the window that looks out on the patio. Thanks Cas, and thanks to Sue for spending so much time and effort to coordinate the exchange. The pattern is by Jane Eborall. I didn't have the size 20 thread in colors, so used size 30. I learned some techniques (ie; self closing mock ring and split ring).

This pretty little bookmark is from Kim's Tatting Page. The title is "forget-me-not bookmark" and she adapted it from a collar pattern in the Aug./Sept. issue of the 1976 Old Time Crochet Magazine. It uses size 30 thread and shuttle and ball. A good friend saw the picture and really admired the pattern, so i tatted it and gave it to her.
